About the Making Memories Breast Cancer
Foundation
The
goal of Making Memories Breast Cancer Foundation
is to grant wishes to people who have been
diagnosed with terminal breast cancer.
The human toll of this terrible disease is truly
staggering. In America alone, every 2 1/2
minutes a woman is diagnosed with breast cancer
and every 12 minutes a woman dies from the
disease. Breast cancer can afflict men as well
as women, and the young as well as the old.
Every year thousands of young children lose a
parent to breast cancer; the disease is the
number one cancer killer of women between the
ages of 15 and 54.
The tragedy of this illness, as with any
terminal disease, is not limited to the physical
and emotional impact. In many cases an enormous
financial strain is placed on the family. When
the insurance is exhausted and the hospitals are
paid there is often no money left for extras.
This means that many families cannot afford
special moments together that might lift spirits
and ease the turmoil of “saying goodbye.”
It is our intention to “make a difference” in
the lives of those suffering from this
devastating disease. Our wish-granting service
helps put the realities of this terminal illness
aside, if just for a few days, while providing
the opportunity for a family to spend quality
time together. Our hope is that every metastatic
breast cancer patient will be able to pass from
this world comforted with the joy of having left
his or her family a final beautiful
memory—something the family will look back on
and remember for a lifetime.
Our wish granting services are made possible by
corporate donations and partnerships, and by
fundraising programs such as Brides Against
Breast Cancer, Quilters Against Breast Cancer
and the Pink Envelope Project. The programs,
volunteer opportunities, and links of this
website provide a great number of ways for you
to make a difference in the lives of those
diagnosed with terminal breast cancer. Use our
search box or site directory to find the
specific program you need, or explore the site
to find all the ways you can get involved. We
are sincerely grateful for all your generous
giving!
If you or someone you love has been diagnosed
with breast cancer, we sympathize and offer our
support. We invite you to read about other
families who have had their wishes granted or
request a wish of your own. We truly hope that
we can make a difference in your life.
